Throwing Jam !

THROWING JAM ! is an event to be with community, practice, play, improvise, and have fun on the wheel without any expectation of producing finished work. Participants will be supplied with an abundance of recycled clay, then we all wedge, center, pull, and start again, exploring forms, techniques, and quantities of clay without the pressures of an end result.

This is the perfect opportunity to understand the limits of our materials - come try throwing as thin as you can, with larger amounts of clay, or with new techniques that you’re interested in trying out!

Please note that this is a space for personal exploration and sharing, not a formal class. The practice will be facilitated by our teaching staff. Questions are welcome and some assistance will be given,, but no long-form and in-depth demonstrations or teaching will be offered.

Pieces may be kept for a small fee if desired.

Pré-requis: Anyone who has previously taken over 4 weeks of throwing classes is welcome. This minimum experience is required! Toute personne ayant déjà suivi plus de 4 semaines de cours de tournage est la bienvenue. C

A few recommendations before your pottery session:

    • Keep your nails short

    • Do not wear rings, bracelets, or watches

    • Wear appropriate clothing and shoes for a studio environment

  • Only if you chose to keep pieces during the workshop. (See “How the session unfolds” for more info)

You will receive an email approximately one month after your session, once your ceramic piece is ready for pickup. Be sure to check your spam or junk folder!

You will then have 2 weeks to come pick up your pieces during our designated pickup hours. Please bring the email with you. If you are unavailable, you may ask someone else to pick up your pieces — they must show your email as proof.

After the 2-week period, any unclaimed pieces will be donated.

Please note that your piece may crack or break during firing — pottery takes practice! This is why this workshop is focused on the experience, not the final result.
