Intermediate Wheel Throwing 4 weeks - 415 $

Intermediate Wheel Throwing- Throwing plates

Tuesday - November 25th to December 16th - 18:00-21:00

with Jeff

Over the course of 4 weeks, we will be exploring the methods and techniques of efficiently making plates and wide formed dishware on the pottery wheel! Plates are often a difficult form to throw and repeat on a wheel, and there is a lot of nuance involved to ensure that your plates are made with intention and integrity. In this class we will learn how to use and attach bats to the wheel, how to throw small and large plates, and how to work with larger amounts of clay. In the last week, emphasis will be put on design considerations for glazing plates, individually and as sets. This is an excellent opportunity for those who are new to plates, or for those who want to dive deeper into their plate making practice.

Requirements: Having completed a 6-week beginner course and a minimum of 8-12 weeks of throwing practice is required.

You’ll receive an email during your first week of class with information on how to access it!

Practice is essential for making progress. For an additional fee, you can come to the studio to apply what you’ve learned in class and continue working on your projects during independent practice time.

  • Please arrive on time for each class!

A few recommendations before your pottery session:

    • Keep your nails short

    • Do not wear rings, bracelets, or watches

    • Wear appropriate clothing and shoes for a studio environment

  • You will receive an email approximately one month after your session, once your ceramic pieces are ready for pickup. Be sure to check your spam or junk folder!

You will then have 2 weeks to come pick up your pieces during our designated pickup hours. Please bring the email with you. If you are unavailable, you may ask someone else to pick up your pieces — they must show your email as proof.

After the 2-week period, any unclaimed pieces will be donated.

Please note that your piece may crack or break during firing — pottery takes practice! This is why this workshop is focused on the experience, not the final result.
