Beginner - The fundamentals

Different sessions available!

Please see our calendar below

In this six-week beginner wheel course, students are offered a supportive, inviting and rigorous context to discover the foundations of this beautiful dance of ceramic form. An excellent opportunity to immerse oneself in the world of pottery through the practice of balance and shape, students are introduced to centering through focused experimentation with cylinders and bowls – and learn to trim, scale up and decorate their pieces. This longer-format course opens the possibility of developing a small body of work and the pleasure of witnessing one's learning curve advance over the duration of the course. The final week, students will learn to glaze with full access to all the colour treatments and surface techniques available in the studio.

It is common and welcome for students to take this course more than once – pottery is a practice and art form and can take time to root and blossom
