Introductory Pottery Wheel Class – 1.5-Hour Session

In this unique 2-hour introductory session, you'll dive into the basics of wheel throwing. You'll learn how to center a ball of clay and create your very first piece, such as a tumbler or a small bowl, which you'll be able to take home after the firing process. No prior experience is required.

Please take the time to read all the information on this page before your class.

This session includes:

  • Two pre-wedged balls of clay and all necessary materials

  • Firing of your piece

  • One of your creations glazed with a transparent finish

  • Here’s what to expect during an introductory wheel-throwing session:

    • Welcome and overview of the workshop process (5 minutes)
Please note: we do not accept participants who arrive more than 5 minutes late. No refunds or rescheduling will be offered in this case.

    • Detailed demonstration by your instructor (about 15 minutes)

    • Step-by-step group demonstration (about 30 minutes)

    • Hands-on practice (about 30 minutes)
You’ll explore on your own using instructional guides, with your instructor circulating to provide help and support.

    • Cleaning the wheels and materials (about 20 minutes)
This is part of the practice! Pottery also means cleaning.

    • Session wrap-up (10 minutes)
You’ll choose one piece to be glazed with a clear glaze—this piece is included in your session.

We also offer the option to select additional pieces and choose from a variety of studio-made glaze colors for an extra fee of $5 per piece and/or per color.

  • Please arrive 15 minutes before the session begins and wait in our gallery space.

Important: Latecomers arriving more than 5 minutes after the session starts will not be admitted, out of respect for the class structure and other participants. No refunds or rescheduling will be possible.

Your instructor will invite you into the studio at the scheduled start time.

This pottery class is for adults only.

A few recommendations before your pottery session:

    • Keep your nails short

    • Do not wear rings, bracelets, or watches

    • Wear appropriate clothing and shoes for a studio environment

  • One piece fired and glaze in transparent is included in this workshop.

You will receive an email approximately one month after your session, once your ceramic piece is ready for pickup. Be sure to check your spam or junk folder!

You will then have 2 weeks to come pick up your pieces during our designated pickup hours. Please bring the email with you. If you are unavailable, you may ask someone else to pick up your pieces — they must show your email as proof.

After the 2-week period, any unclaimed pieces will be donated.

Please note that your piece may crack or break during firing — pottery takes practice! This is why this workshop is focused on the experience, not the final result.
