Intermediate Wheel Throwing- Lamps, Vases, & Bottles
Develop your wheel throwing skills with this 6-week Intermediate wheel throwing course. In this intermediate wheel throwing class we will be focusing on how to make table lamps, bottles, and vases! Students will be guided through how to throw larger pieces, throw and assemble pieces in multiple sections, make their own chucks for trimming, and measure and account for installing lighting hardware on pieces. Students can follow along with the three main projects or choose their own projects throughout the duration of the class. This is a 6-week session with a three-hour weekly class.
Requirement for participation: Students must have completed a minimum of 6-weeks of wheel classes and be able to centre and minimum of 1.5lbs clay.

10 kg of clay of your choice and all the tools necessary

One pass of 4 Independent practices is included during the first 4 weeks of the course.

This pottery class is for adults only.
A few recommendations before your pottery session:
Keep your nails short
Do not wear rings, bracelets, or watches
Wear appropriate clothing and shoes for a studio environment

Curriculum offers a top-level understanding for the learning arc that you can expect to follow in this introductory course. Teachers of intermediate classes are also encouraged to adapt the course at times to the needs and project desires of the students as a group. This may include adding additional demonstrations or changing the order of the demonstrations. Students that have taken intermediate classes before can choose to not participate in demonstrations.
Teachers are also encouraged to show image slideshows at the beginning of class to show the potential of each technique.

Topic: Making Two-Part Forms (Lamp Base Construction)Introduction to making pieces in two parts

Assemble and refine lamp bodies
Week 3:
Topic: Throwing Tall Forms (Using Lots of Clay)Techniques for centering and throwing large amounts of clay
Introduction to using throwing chucks for stability
Week 4:
Topic: Throwing BottlesDemonstration of bottle forms and narrow necks
Practice throwing tall, balanced shapes
Week 5:
Topic: Finishing and Lamp AssemblyTrimming with a chuck
Demonstration: assembling and wiring lighting hardware
Week 6:
Topic: Glazing and Finishing TouchesGlaze application for finished lamp forms
Optional open studio time for those not glazing that day

A 4-session Independent Practice Pass is included with this course.
You’ll receive an email during your first week of class with information on how to access it!Practice is essential for making progress. For an additional fee, you can come to the studio to apply what you’ve learned in class and continue working on your projects during independent practice time.

You will receive an email approximately one month after your session, once your ceramic pieces are ready for pickup. Be sure to check your spam or junk folder!
You will then have 2 weeks to come pick up your pieces during our designated pickup hours. Please bring the email with you. If you are unavailable, you may ask someone else to pick up your pieces — they must show your email as proof.
After the 2-week period, any unclaimed pieces will be donated.
Please note that your piece may crack or break during firing — pottery takes practice! This is why this workshop is focused on the experience, not the final result.

Missed Class
