Experience pottery: An introduction

This 3-hour workshop is designed for those interested in a more comprehensive introduction to clay practice. In this class, we will spend time learning about clay, its properties, and the craft of pottery through a brief introduction to the two main styles of working: handbuilding and wheel throwing. This class is designed for those interested in the experience of working with the material and techniques in a fun and engaging environment. As the emphasis is on experience and not production, there is no piece included to keep at the end of this workshop.

By the end of this class, expect to have a basic understanding of what it is to work clay with your hands and on a pottery wheel.

Requirement: None. If you have already taken an introductory class and wish to learn more, we recommend signing up for one of our weekly beginner courses!

Extras: Pieces may be kept for a small fee if desired.

Important: Latecomers arriving more than 5 minutes after the session starts will not be admitted, out of respect for the class structure and other participants. No refunds or rescheduling will be possible.

Your instructor will invite you into the studio at the scheduled start time.

This pottery class is for adults only.

A few recommendations before your pottery session:

    • Keep your nails short

    • Do not wear rings, bracelets, or watches

    • Wear appropriate clothing and shoes for a studio environment

  • Only if you chose to keep pieces during the workshop. (See “How the session unfolds” for more info)

You will receive an email approximately one month after your session, once your ceramic piece is ready for pickup. Be sure to check your spam or junk folder!

You will then have 2 weeks to come pick up your pieces during our designated pickup hours. Please bring the email with you. If you are unavailable, you may ask someone else to pick up your pieces — they must show your email as proof.

After the 2-week period, any unclaimed pieces will be donated.

Please note that your piece may crack or break during firing — pottery takes practice! This is why this workshop is focused on the experience, not the final result.
