Expressive Drawing and Patterning for Functional ware

Expressive Drawing and Patterning for Functional ware

In this three hour intensive workshop we will be developing drawing and patterning strategies to bring more visual interest and expression to functional ware. Great for those who have little-to-no experience with drawing, or for those looking to explore new methods and techniques, this class will begin with a series of prompted drawing exercises to help each student discover imagery, patterns, and expressive mark-making that aligns with their sensibilities. An emphasis will be given on how to make designs that complement form and create cohesion in a set.

The later half of the course will be dedicated to demonstrating various techniques, materials, and approaches to glazing and mark making with the Cone 10 studio resources. This course is perfect for anyone interested in incorporating drawing and patterning into their practice.

Although this is a participatory workshop, there will be no decorating personal work during the course of the workshop due to time constraints.

Prerequisites: Must have taken one 6-week class and have some experience with glazing.

This session includes:

  • All necessary materials for the workshop.
