Discover the basics of handbuilding in this 2-hour holiday workshop designed for a parent and child duo, with children aged 6 to 12. Together, you’ll create a snowman, a Christmas tree, and two flat Christmas ornaments, for a total of 4 pieces per duo.

These will be the demonstrated forms, but creativity is encouraged! We’ll guide you in bringing your own ideas to life, whether you’d like to make animals, candleholders, cups, or other creations inspired by the holiday season.

You’ll then explore different surface decoration techniques, such as carving textures, using stamps, and painting with colourful underglazes to personalize your creations.

Your pieces will then be fired and coated with a transparent glaze by our team. They’ll be ready for pickup before Christmas!

Prerequisites: None — no prior experience is necessary.

Included

  • 4 pieces per parent-child duo: one snowman, one Christmas tree, and two flat Christmas ornaments

  • 4 lbs of clay per duo

  • All necessary tools and materials

  • Decoration with a selection of colourful underglazes

  • Firing of all pieces

  • Transparent glaze applied by the studio team

  • An apron provided by the studio for the duration of the workshop

Price: $120 + tax per parent-child duo.

  • We ask that you arrive 5 to 10 minutes before the start of your session and wait in our gallery area.

    Please note: late arrivals of more than 5 minutes will not be admitted to the session in order to respect the organization of the class and the other participants. No refund or rescheduling is possible.

    The instructor will invite you into the studio at the scheduled start time of your class.

    A few recommendations before making pottery

    • Keep your nails short

    • Do not wear rings, bracelets, or watches

    • Wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.

  • Welcome & Explanation — 10 min
    Introduction to the workshop and the different stages of the creative process.

    Demonstration — 20 min
    The instructor demonstrates the hand-building techniques and explains the steps to follow.

    Creation — 1 hr
    Children create their piece at their own pace, with the help and guidance of the instructor.

    Finishing & Decoration — 20 min
    Adding details, textures, and decorations to personalize their creations.

    Cleaning — 10 min
    Cleaning the equipment and workspace is part of the workshop. Pottery is also about learning to take care of your space!

    Conclusion — 10 min
    Each child chooses one piece that will be fired and glazed with a transparent glaze.

  • One piece, fired and glazed with a transparent glaze, is included in the workshop.

    You will receive an email approximately one month after your session, when your piece is ready. Remember to check your spam or junk folder.

    You will then have two weeks to pick up your piece during our pickup hours. Please present the confirmation email. Someone else can also pick it up for you, using this email as proof.

    After this period, any unclaimed pieces will be donated.

    Ceramics is a delicate process: cracks or breakage can occur during drying or firing. This is part of the learning process, which is why the workshop is primarily focused on the experience and discovery, rather than the final result.

    We take the greatest care with your pieces, but some may be too fragile or damaged to be fired. In this case, an appropriate replacement item will be offered to you when you pick up your piece.

    Missed One-Time Workshop

    Missed one-time workshops are non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled. We offer several dates, so choose the time that works best for you!

    Late Arrivals

    For one-time workshops, late arrivals of more than 5 minutes will not be admitted in order to respect the flow of the workshop and the other participants. No refund or rescheduling will be possible.
