Handbuilding: Introduction - Ocarina

Discover the basics of hand-building during this one-time 2-hour session. You’ll learn how to create your own ceramic ocarina, an ancient wind instrument from the flute family. Using pinch-pot techniques, you’ll shape and join two clay forms to create your own round flute, then decorate it with colorful underglazes and/or textures.
Your ocarina will be fired by our team and ready to use to make music in approximately 3–4 weeks.
Prerequisite: None — no prior experience required.

We ask that you arrive 5 to 10 minutes before the start of your session and wait in our gallery area.
Please note: late arrivals of more than 5 minutes will not be admitted to the session in order to respect the organization of the class and the other participants. No refund or rescheduling is possible.
The instructor will invite you into the studio at the scheduled start time of your class.

Wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.

Cleaning the tables and equipment is part of the workshop. Pottery is also about learning to clean your workspace!Conclusion — 10 min
Choose the colors of our studio-made glazes for your pieces, for an additional $5 per piece and/or per glaze color. -
Your matcha bowl and cup, glazed with a transparent glaze, are included in the workshop.
You will receive an email approximately one month after your session, when your pieces are ready. Remember to check your spam or junk folder.
You will then have two weeks to pick up your pieces during our pickup hours. Please present the confirmation email. Someone else can also pick them up for you, using this email as proof.
After this period, any unclaimed pieces will be donated.
Ceramics is a delicate process: cracks or breakage can occur during drying or firing. This is part of the learning process, which is why the workshop is primarily focused on the experience and discovery, rather than the final result.
We take the greatest care with your pieces, but some may be too fragile or damaged to be fired. In this case, an appropriate replacement item will be offered to you when you pick up your pieces.
